The Geode
Located in the Villette Park, in the northern side of Paris, and quite close to the Cité des sciences (The Sciences Museum), the Géode is an exceptional movie theater in many ways. This gargantuan steel sphere of 36 m. of diameter, built in 1986, is an architectural achievement, a theoretical and practical challenge that was finished after ten years of hard work. Constituted by 6 433 spheric equilateral steel triangles, it reflects its environment in a mirror-like way, anamorphosed in an almost surreal manner.
The inner amphitheater is equally astounding with its 400 seats cinema, equipped with a 1 000 m² hemispheric screen, ranked among the biggest in the world, which allows 'Omnimax' projection, that is, an image 10 times bigger than the regular 35 mm. cinema. Concerning the sound, the Géode has a 21 000 watts installation enhancing the power of the image so that the spectator feels an incomparable overall sensory experience
The Géode is at the summit of technological innovation and, moreover, features impressive special effects, from the IMAX® giant screen projection to the virtual reality project, a 3D real time rendering. Thus, dinosaurs, ocean secrets or space travel may come through in an unparalleled scenery, in pleasure and culture, with guaranteed thrills!
