For Christmas, explore the Île de la Cité which is thought of as the historical centre of Paris. Your small-group tour will begin a very special with skip the line access to the amazing Sainte-Chapelle. It is a masterpiece of medieval engineering with walls made entirely of stained glass. With your art historian guide, you will learn about the king behind this ambitious project, and the high-profile relic for which the chapel was built.
The next exploration will be the world-famous Notre-Dame Cathedral, where your guide will tell you all the intricate details of the stone façade of this gothic masterpiece. You will learn the difference between a gargoyle and a grotesque! During the Christmas festivities, you will also have the chance to admire the Christmas trees on display outside, notably one enormous specimen!
Once inside the cathedral, you’ll discover how this iconic monument fared during the key events of Paris history from the French Revolution to the WWII. There will also be a chance to admire its resplendent stained glass windows, religious relics and of course, the Christmas decorations and traditional nativity display.
Finally, to really get you into the festive spirit you group will visit a traditional Christmas market as the night falls and enjoy a mulled wine or hot chocolate (included in the price of the tour), along with a festive tasting of foie gras or soft ginger bread.
