Let’s meet our guide in Lyon for a guided tour around the French gastronomy. The region of Lyon has been considered as the French capital of gastronomy for a long time, cradle of great chefs such as Paul Bocuse or the Troisgros brothers. This 3 hour walk will help you to discover the history of the city of Lyon and its many culinary specialties such as the quenelles, pork scratchings, the fried breaded tripe or the pink praline Brioche.

Your journey will begin on the famous Place Bellecour, where your Localers guide will wait for you under the huge statue of Louis XIV enthroned on his horse. This local gastronomy expert will accompany you all along the day and will explain you the link between gastronomy and this ancient capital of the Gauls. Your excursion will start with a guided tour of the historical Maison Voisin, producing Coussins de Lyon since 1960. You will discover the secrets of this candy made of a chocolate ganache coated with green marzipan and shaped like a cushion.

After this first visit, you will stroll through the old Lyon, district classified as a World Heritage site. Your guide will show you the Saint Jean cathedral, the Saint Jean street with its numerous shops but also the traboules, these small passages between two buildings. You will have a quick stop in an authentic bakery to enjoy a brioche and a pink praline tart, traditional pastry of the city. You will then cross again the Saône river to walk to the market of the Presqu’île de Lyon. On the way you will observe the singular architecture of the city that is called the Petit Paris.

Your guide will then give you the opportunity to visit a Bouchon Lyonnais, typical restaurant where the silk factory workers – so-called “canuts” – used to eat pork dishes with a glass of Beaujolais wine.

In the heart of this unique atmosphere, you will discover more about the history of the city.

To end with this getaway, you will board a bus that will take you to the halles of Paul Bocuse. This covered market not only pays tribute to Lyon's most famous chef in France but also to the many regional specialties. In this place with thousands of flavors, you will have the chance to taste cold cuts, various cheeses, all accompanied by a glass of wine. Your day will end on this gustatory note.
