Deauville : the history of a unique landscape

Deauville is considered one of the most prestigious seaside towns in Francelocated on the Côte Fleurie, just like Trouville, Honfleur or Touques. In the hinterland, the seaside countryside abounds with half-timbered houses, thatched cottages, in the middle of green pastures and flowering apple trees. Despite being 120 miles away from the capital, it has been fondly nicknamed the 21st Arrondissement (district) of Paris. Paris City Vision proposes you to visit the center of Deauville during its new Normandy excursion between Land and Sea.

The Elegant village, the fame of Deauville is international with its palaces, its casino, its big villas, some of them from the Belle Epoque. The famous seaside promenade, called "Les Planches" - with several bars and restaurants - stretches over 653 meters. It is lined with bathing cabins dating from the 1920s, each bearing the name of one of the Hollywood movie stars who came to the American Festival of Deauville. The latter, founded in 1975, is held every year in September. At the heart of the seaside resort, this festival has welcomed the biggest stars, such as Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood, George Clooney, Liz Taylor, Julia Roberts or Harrison Ford. The town has always been appreciated by writers and artists such as Gustave Flaubert, or Sacha Guitry and frequented by famous people such as the Aga Khan and Rita Hayworth. It was here that Coco Chanel opened her second luxury boutique in 1913 in the Normandy Hotel, imposing a revolutionary style for the time. Built at the beginning of the 20th century for Henri de Rosthschild, the Villa Stassburger also perfectly represents this neo-Norman architectural style.
